How to S-Tart accelerating vessel performance

How to start improving vessel performance by human performance. Like at the start of any program, it's imperative that we understand where we are today, where we want to go, how to get there. Not only to create a strategic plan, but also so we can look in a year's time and look at what a fantastic job you've done, look at how well you've succeeded. The exact same principle goes when you step into a higher practice, a personal trainer, a nutritionist, a business consultant. The exact same process were utilised to improve both vessel and human performance.

Where to START? Well, we need to start with the three R's, Research, Review and stRategy. The research stage is an exciting opportunity for you to start to understand how important human performance is to vessel operation and commercial performance. We as organizations need to understand the impact crew has every single day on vessel performance.

There are a number of ways of understanding, but reverting back to previous blogs, webinars, podcasts, we have a fantastic tool at our disposal. It's called technology. We can access our crew anywhere in the world, and with the power of technology, we can actually start to understand fairly quickly what life is like today onboard a ship with very little intervention.

We also need to look at the historic data as to how elements of human performance, whether that's medical, physiological, or mental, have affected vessel operation, commercial performance. Whether that's due to medical repatriations, medical emergencies, deaths at sea, accidents, reduction in safety standards. After a research period is conducted, it's then vitally important that we review the data, review the findings in order to develop a strategy, a clear plan to train and educate all those who are involved appropriately.
