“ISO 45001 was published on 12th March 2018. With this release, OHSAS 18001 will be withdrawn. Companies certified to the OHSAS 18001 standard now have a three-year period to migrate their certificate to ISO 45001. We recommend that your preparations start now.” - DNV-GL

45001 Ways to Manage Shipboard Safety and Health

ISO 45001 is the first international standard that specifically allows for the proactive management of physical and mental health as well as traditional safety related issues, and is highly relevant to the maritime industry with its unique set of challenges.

All too often the emphasis on ISM and MLC compliance overshadows the enormous benefits of ISO standardisation, leading to these accreditations becoming a paper tiger used only when tendering for new contracts. With less than three years left to transition, companies need to think about how to upskill or train internal auditors, how to get ROI from certification and how to raise awareness of the standard both within the workforce as a whole and the senior leadership team.
